Why choose us as a nervous patient?
At SmileWorks, we pride ourselves on our empathetic approach to patient care. We don’t just treat your teeth; we truly look after your well-being, taking the time you need so appointments never feel rushed. From the moment you first contact us or walk through our doors, our friendly approach and relaxed atmosphere will begin to put you at ease.
We are very experienced in supporting nervous patients and providing judgment-free, comfortable care you can trust. We focus heavily on managing pain, utilising numbing cream and warming our local anesthetic, which is proven to reduce the discomfort of injections. Oral sedatives are also readily available for surgeries or highly anxious patients. Whether it’s been many years since your last dental check-up or you’re feeling worried about a specific treatment, we help you rebuild your confidence and access the gentle care you need.

How do we help nervous patients?
If you’re anxious or concerned about your visit, please tell us. We work closely with you to make sure we can help you feel as comfortable as possible, tailoring our care to your needs. We spend time getting to know you and understand your reasons for dental anxiety so we can fully support you.
When you’re feeling more relaxed and are ready for an examination, we proceed gently. We explain exactly what we are doing before it happens, in as much or as little detail as you are comfortable with. We also agree on a simple signal, such as raising your hand, which you can use if you need a break, keeping you in control.
To make you feel more at ease, we also welcome you to listen to music or a podcast through headphones, or bring a friend so you can have a non-dental chat during treatment. Over time, we hope you will begin to feel less worried about your visits.
For complex dental treatments and extractions at the practice, you can rest assured that we will always make a follow-up phone call to you when you are back at home. This is to check that you are comfortable and that there is nothing concerning you.
